From the beginning I knew I was modeling this home to look + feel like a relaxing spa retreat. At the time the modern farmhouse was all the rage and it was very white + black, concrete, steel, industrial, bold patterned tiles. But a more monochromatic color palette (shades of neutrals), organic materials and textures, mood lighting, intentional blank spaces on walls and large open rooms and halls felt like the better choice for our next home. No idea where the trends were heading, especially since we were committing to finishes and designs 18-months before we'd be done with the house, I just continued to collect inspiration and ideas.

Of all places the unexpected places to find such inspiration, the Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii was it. The entrance to the spa had this long textured wall with uplighting. Wish I had snapped a pic, but it definitely stuck with me and when we were working with the architect an opportunity came up to re-create it in our bedroom. Finding the right (and most cost effective) material took some time with so many possibilities -- tile, stone, wallpaper and more. I cannot believe it, but our designer found a wallpaper that's almost exactly like the example below.

Now, we are only a couple days out from having the wallpaper installed and I cannot wait to share the final look.

Let me just start w the inspo image. DREAM right?

Since the powder bath was going to be the bathroom our guests would frequent the most, it needed to impress. From the beginning we knew we were going to incorporate a really cool wall texture + a custom sink. First few designs included 3D tile on the walls and a metal + stone custom sink. As we were pricing out the cost of fabrication and materials we went through a few more designs until we settled on an option similar to the sink above. And this design was born:

So stunning! Can't wait to see it all put together.
